London’s Metropolitan Police have initiated a criminal investigation into allegations concerning the unauthorized access of a political party’s database, a matter that has intensified existing tensions within Your Party. The inquiry was launched after authorities received a report in September 2025 regarding the incident. While police officials did not explicitly name the organization in their public statements, sources indicate the probe is connected to the protracted dispute surrounding the founding of the left-wing group last year.
Your Party was established in the summer of 2025 by former Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn and former MP Zarah Sultana. Both figures currently serve as Members of Parliament for the new organization. However, relations between the distinct factions within the party have remained strained since its inception in July of that year. The internal conflict centers on control over membership structures and financial contributions, with significant disagreements emerging shortly after the party's launch.
The dispute escalated in September 2025 when Sultana announced a new membership portal on social media, urging supporters to become paying members for £55. Corbyn strongly opposed this move, characterizing the platform as a false system and advising his base to disregard emails requesting funds. Sultana defended her actions by stating her goal was to protect grassroots involvement essential to building the party. She later criticized the internal management style, accusing it of being dominated by a sexist dynamic.
Law enforcement activity has included the arrest of a man on suspicion of violating the 1990 Computer Misuse Act. He was released pending further inquiries and has not been charged with any offense. Additionally, officers previously interviewed a woman in her thirties under caution in connection with the same investigation. Police confirmed that neither the arrested individual nor the woman questioned are Members of Parliament. Neither Corbyn nor Sultana have been accused of wrongdoing in relation to these police actions.
The regulatory landscape surrounding the incident adds another layer of complexity. In January, it was revealed that the Information Commissioner’s Office advised Your Party that while they were taking no further direct action regarding the launch of the membership portal, the situation may have involved serious criminal activity. The ICO recommended that the matter be referred to the police, which appears to align with the current Metropolitan Police investigation.
Your Party has faced challenges in establishing a broad national presence since its formation. In contrast, the Green Party of England and Wales, which has rebranded as an eco-socialist organization, has experienced a quadrupling of its membership base during the same period. Your Party’s internal struggles have coincided with difficulties in expanding its influence beyond its initial core supporters, limiting its immediate impact on the wider political landscape.
Despite these challenges, Corbyn secured a decisive victory in February to become the de facto leader of the startup party. He outlined plans for Your Party to collaborate with the Green Party and other groups to mount a coordinated left-flank offensive against both Reform UK and the Labour Party. Under the party’s collective leadership model, Sultana was also elected to the leadership committee. Corbyn-backed candidates claimed 14 of the 24 available seats on the central executive committee, while Sultana-aligned candidates secured seven seats, with three going to independents.
A spokesperson for Your Party declined to comment further on the ongoing police investigations, citing appropriateness regarding active legal matters. However, they sought to reassure members and supporters that their systems remain secure and characterized the incident as isolated. The investigation continues, with no charges filed against any political figures involved in the leadership dispute.
The situation highlights the fragility of new political movements attempting to consolidate power while managing internal ideological and operational divides. As the police inquiry proceeds, the focus remains on whether technical breaches occurred during the membership portal controversy and how such actions might affect the party’s future stability and public trust.
